The President of the GAA has said the association will not apologise for its decision to raise ticket prices.
Changes to ticket prices were announced last week, with a stand ticket for the All-Ireland Finals rising from €80 to €90.
Ticket prices for matches in the top Allianz League divisions will also see increases.
John Horan today told the Seanad that the additional revenue will be distributed among clubs, and will also go towards improving facilities at county grounds.
He also said that €200,000 of the planned increased revenue will support overseas GAA organisations.
The GAA Uachtarán insisted that he believes the association was right to raise prices, despite receiving criticism for doing so.
He observed: "People may want to criticise us, but the decision that was made at Central Council... was unanimous.
"We made the case to the people - we were raising the prices to do something with the money for our membership and the community that exists within this country. We will not apologise for doing good work on the ground."
Senator Rose Conway Walsh, meanwhile, was among those raising concerns about the ticket price increase - suggesting that the hikes are pricing many families out of attending games.
She argued: "The increase in the ticket to an All-Ireland Final will mean a ticket is now costing €90.
"For a county such as Mayo, where you have travel and accommodation costs on top of the ticket price, this will mean a day out in Dublin for a family simply becomes too expensive."
