Dog lovers have been renowned for spoiling their favourite pooches, however one hotel in New York, maybe taking it to another extreme.

The first luxury dog hotel has opened in one of the richest areas in New York City. The ‘D Pet Hotel’ aims to ensure that owner’s pooches ‘gets the same quality [hotel] as a human being does’.

Cared for canines can trade in their kennels for a comfy night’s sleep in a double bed, or wind down by catching a film in their room on a bespoke flat-screen TV.

‘As a New Yorker, when you go on vacation, and you stay in a fabulous hotel, with fabulous services, your dog is staying in a fabulous hotel with fabulous services,’ explained investor Shawn Hassanzadeh.

And if  the luxury wasn’t enough for the pampered pooches, they could always keep fit too with the hotel’s state-of-the-art pooch gym, equipped with personal trainers and treadmills.

There are also three different playgrounds for the spoilt pets to play in or the option of a tour around the Big Apple for a small additional fee.

If the pups are tired out after all that training and touring, canine lovers can book their pooch into the hotel for a day spa, being chauffeur driven to and from the premises in either a SUV or Lamborghini.

‘We thought, what a perfect thing for New York,’ said co-owner Kerry Brown, ‘where we’ve got tons of people who are working, tons of people who are travelling.When it comes to taking care of your pet, which most people see as their kids, you want to make sure every detail is taken care of well.’

If you fancy checking your pooch in, standard canine rooms cost $79 (€60) a day, while luxury suites are available from $200 (€165).
