A group calling for a repeal of the 8th amendment has produced a short film, using almost 100 people.

The piece, called 'We Face This Land', features women in 'Repeal' jumpers on a beach and walking into the sea.

The film features a spoken word piece by novelist Sarah Maria Griffin, which is recited by a variety of Irish women.

These include Tara Flynn, Aoibhinn McGinnity, Seána Kerslake, Róisín Ingle, Ailbhe Smyth, Una Mullaly, Senator Lynn Ruane and Sinead Gleeson.

"When a stethoscope is a crucifix on your belly how do you have any choice but the water?" they ask.

"And fair medical treatment on other shores - a body is a body... not a house. Not a city. Not a vessel, not a country.

"The laws of the church have no place on your flesh.

"A veterinarian will abort a calf if a cow is falling ill. How is it that livestock is worth more to this land than us?".

It was directed by IFTA award winner Dave Tynan, who said: "I felt the key to it was a group of women speaking the lines. Women have often suffered alone in this country; they speak in unison in the film."

The Repeal Project, run by Anna Cosgrave, is a clothing project "to give a voice to a hidden problem", as she has described it.

Anna says the sweatshirts "act as statements of solidarity for the 11 women that leave our shores daily to access abortion".
