Its been twenty years since those naughty extra-terrestrials came and destroyed our precious landmarks, and ever since, humanity has been prepping for their return.

From the ruined remains of their giant spacecrafts, Earth have put together some very sci-fi'y weapons and modes of transport, should the aliens ever decide to come back to finish the job.

Unfortunately, the aliens have also had those twenty years to prepare, and have returned bigger and most landmark-destroying than ever.

Opening on July 3rd 1996, the original Independence Day made over $800 million at the box office, with a sequel constantly being mooted in the two decades since.

Finally, we're actually getting one, with original director Roland Emmerich back to oversee the destruction, along with Jeff Goldblum, Bill Paxton and Judd Hirsch, who will be joined by new cast-mates Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward as the new President of the United States.
