When it comes to going down on one knee and popping the question in front of tens of thousands of spectators in a stadium, arguably the worst thing that can happen is a very public rejection. But having everyone in New York’s Yankee Stadium, not to mention millions of viewers at home, watching you drop and lose the diamond ring at the isn’t great either, as Andrew Fox of New Castle, Pennsylvania learnt on Tuesday night.
Planning on proposing to his girlfriend Heather Terwilliger, Fox had arranged for the Jumbotron camera to display his big moment to everyone in the stadium between innings, only for him to fumble it by dropping the ring. And then being unable to find it. Despite everyone around the couple joining in the search, while the TV and radio commentators relayed the whole shambles to everyone at home for the five long minutes it took to finally find it.
Turns out it had fallen into the turn-up cuff at the bottom of his girlfriend’s leg. At least he can now call her his fiancée, though, as Heather said yes.
