In a moving tribute to the 49 dead victims killed in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub early in the morning on Sunday, the Orlando Gay Chorus sang versions of the songs True Colors and You’ll Never Walk Alone at a prayer service in the Florida city on Sunday, part of a growing trend of LBGTQ choral groups singing around the world.
The members of the group, a group of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight singers, performed Cyndi Lauper’s song, as well as the show tine from the musical Carousel, in a moving tribute to the revellers who lost their lives when Omar Mateen opened fire with an assault rifle in the night club.
At the vigil held beside City Hall in Dublin city centre, Gloria, an LGBTQ choir based in the capital, performed the well-known song Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz. Those who had gathered to share their thoughts and respect with the Orlando victims stood in silence while the men and women in the choir sand the song made famous by Judy Garland.

At the vigil in London held on Soho’s Old Compton Street, where the Admiral Duncan gay bar was bombed by Neo-Nazi David Copeland in 1999, London’s Gay Men’s Chorus joined the thousands of people playing homage to Orlando’s victims. The crowd stood in silence while the chorus sang a moving version of Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge over Troubled Water.
