Members of the public joined representatives from various NGOs today to spell out a message of support for refugees on Dublin's Sandymount Strand.
The 'Refugees Welcome' message comes ahead of tomorrow's extraordinary meeting of the EU Council of Justice & Home Affairs Ministers, where politicians from each EU state will meet to discuss the ongoing refugee crisis.
Those taking part called on EU leaders to come up with a comprehensive plan to provide safe and legal channels for migration, a transparent process of resettlement, and to provide basic assistance for asylum seekers who have arrived in Europe.
They have also asked that the Irish government show leadership for the rights of refugees and migrants at a European level, and that the controversial Dublin Regulation be dropped in Ireland and across the EU.
