VHI has announced it is increasing its premiums by an average 2%.

The hike comes into effect from November 1st.

The increases will vary across plans and will range between 1% and 5%, with the insurer saying the average increase will be 2%.

VHI says the increases is because of the rising cost of customer claims, and that this is the first premium price rise in 20 months.
