Some 90% of the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) members are said to be in favour of same-sex marriage.

The group have launched their campaign for a Yes vote in the upcoming referendum on the issue.

It believes equal access to civil marriage in Ireland "is one of the most important civil rights issues of our generation", and that students have a valuable role to play in making this a reality.

They are expecting a high voter turn out from students in May, and they say they have registered more than 20,000 of their members around the country.

President of the USI is Laura Harmon says students feel very strongly about this issue.

But that it is important all students on both sides of the debate have their say.
