The murder of a young woman devolved into a complete miscarriage of justice for one young man, the latest season of Inside the Crime has revealed.

Season three of Newstalk’s Inside the Crime is now available in full, telling the story of one missing woman and one wronged man.

Creator Frank Greaney told The Anton Savage Show the basic story of the crime starts with 19-year-old Una Lynskey getting off at her bus stop.

The civil servant got off at the same bus stop as her cousin Ann, who she typically spoke to for a few minutes every day at the stop.

“They said their goodbyes quickly that even because it was a particularly cold evening, and they were eager to get out of the cold – and she was never seen again,” Frank explained.

“It would have taken about 15 minutes to get home; she lived at the end of a cul de sac about halfway down Porterstown Lane.

“To this day, we don’t know what happened to Una Lynskey in those 15 minutes.”

Trial of Martin Conmey

While these 15 minutes were “life-defining” for Una, they also became defining for Martin Connolly, who was wrongly convicted of her death.

“He spent some time in Mountjoy,” Frank said. “He still lives on Porterstown Lane now.

“Speaking to Martin Conmey, he’s in his 70s now... you get the sense that he never truly left Trim Garda Station where he was taken in for questioning.

“He was physically and mentally tortured by members of the Garda murder squad.

“Martin told us in excruciating detail into how he was beaten into making a confession.

“It haunts me to even ask the question of Martin, what it was like when they closed that prison cell door.”

And amid this miscarriage of justice, was the cause of Una Lynskey’s death ever discovered? Was the true killer ever found?

You can find out more about the death of Una Lynskey and the trials of Martin Conmey at Inside the Crime: Season Three, available in full on streaming platforms now.
