A report from the UN's nuclear watchdog has found that Iran is sticking to its nuclear deal, despite suggestions to the contrary from Donald Trump.

A number of news agencies have quoted the findings of the confidential report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

According to The Washington Post, the report found that Iran "has not pursued" the construction of the Arak heavy water research reactor - a structure that, if built, would potentially allow the country to produce weapons-grade plutonium.

Iran’s stock of low-enriched uranium is also not believed to exceed limits & caps put in place by the international deal.

The Iran deal - officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action - was agreed in 2015 between Iran and various world powers, including the US, China, Russia and the EU.

As part of the deal, the Iranian government agreed to limit its nuclear programme, with the other parties agreeing to lift sanctions on the country in return.

The then US President Barack Obama hailed the deal as "one more chapter in [the] pursuit of a safer and more helpful and more hopeful world".

However, the deal has been heavily criticised by Obama's successor Donald Trump, who has described the deal "as one of the most incompetent ever made".

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal last month - the full transcript of which was published by Politico - President Trump said he did not believe Iran would be found to be in compliance with the agreement.

He claimed: "I think they’re taking advantage of this country. They’ve taken advantage of a president, named Barack Obama, who didn’t know what the hell he was doing. And I do not expect that they will be compliant."

Iran, meanwhile, has accused the US of breaching the deal after the Trump administration imposed fresh sanctions on firms and individuals for "supporting Iran’s ballistic missile program".
