The UK's Prince Philip has been involved in a car crash in which two women suffered minor injuries.

He was driving a Landrover which collided with a smaller car.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the crash happened near Sandringham Estate in Norfolk in England, where the 97-year-old prince is spending time with his wife Queen Elizabeth II.

Eyewitnesses told BBC that the car the duke was driving overturned.

Police said the female driver of the other car suffered cuts, while a female passenger sustained an arm injury.

Both women were treated in hospital, but have since been discharged.

The prince was not injured.

Local police said: "It is force policy to breath test drivers involved in collisions. We can confirm both drivers were breath tested and provided negative readings."

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "The Duke of Edinburgh was involved in a road traffic accident with another vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

"The Duke was not injured. The accident took place close to the Sandringham Estate. Local police attended the scene."

British media reported that the royal has seen a doctor, but only as a precautionary measure.

Prince Philip officially retired from public engagements in 2017, although still occasionally makes appearances with his family.
