Taxi app Uber is launching a new service for passengers who want a quiet journey.

It is rolling out 'Quiet Mode' for Uber Black users - its higher-end option.

The company said: "If you need to respond to e-mails or are in the mood for a nap, make your trip a quieter one with just one tap.

"If you're in the mood to chat, that's an option too."

Aydin Ghajar, Uber's senior product manager, explained: "Over the years, Uber has expanded mobility by delivering new modes of transportation whenever riders need it.

"Today, we’re rolling out a new, enhanced set of features for Uber Black and Uber Black SUV, the original luxury experiences where it all started.

"Uber Black and Uber Black SUV riders told us they wanted high-quality service and premium comfort."

Other new options people can select include 'Help with Luggage' and 'Temperature Control' - giving users their ideal temperature in a vehicle.

The new premium features will be available to US Uber Black and Uber Black SUV riders on May 15th.

But the company said it plans to expand these requirements to more cities soon.

It comes just days after Uber was floated on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The stock opened last Friday at US$42.00 (€37.48), before dropping back to around US$37.00 (€33.02).

Uber has over 16,000 employees and operates in 65 countries and more than 600 cities worldwide - including Dublin.
