Two people were airlifted to safety from Black Valley in Killarney, Co Kerry earlier today, after spending the night on a river island. The pair are said to be safe and well.
Radio Kerry reports that the man and woman were kayaking on the Gearhameen River and lost their paddles at around 7:30pm. The pair then became stranded on the island.
Valentia Coastguard were contacted at approximately 9 o'clock in relation to the incident. However, they were not able to deploy a chopper to help the pair due to dangerous weather conditions in the area.
