A young man and a teenage boy have pleaded not guilty to the murder of a German tourist in south Dublin.

Thomas Heinrich (22) died after being stabbed at St. Anthony's Road in Rialto in December 2012.

In the early hours of December 1st 2012, Mr. Heinrich was stabbed in the stomach outside an apartment. He underwent surgery at nearby St. James' Hospital but lost his fight for life a short time later.

His friend Robert Rinker - who is also from Germany - was also stabbed and spent two days in intensive care.

The pair were studying at Griffith College as part of a course they were both doing in Munich. They had been living at an apartment complex not far from where they were attacked.

Wesley Kelly of St. Anthony's Road, Rialto and his co-accused, who cannot be named because of his age, deny murdering Mr. Heinrich.

They have also pleaded not guilty to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to his friend on the same night.

A jury was sworn in this afternoon and their trial is due to begin hearing evidence tomorrow.
