The victim of yesterday's fatal shooting in West Dublin has been named locally as 36-year-old father of three Keith Walker.

Walker who was from Tir Na Ri Road in Clondalkin is believed to have been gunned down in a case of mistaken identity.

The victim was shot dead at Shelerin Road, Clonsilla at around 6pm yesterday evening.

Walker was shot up to eight times - while a second man reportedly received gunshot wounds to his arm and is being treated at Connolly Hospital.

Both men are reported to have been attending a pigeon club meeting in a community centre.

A man was arrested in Meath earlier this morning and is being detained at Blanchardstown Garda station under the provisions of section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 1997.

Councillor Daithi De Roiste, Chairman of the Joint Policing Committee for Dublin, says this seems to be another tragic case of mistaken identity:

Gardaí in Blanchardstown are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
