Twitter addicts are about to have more detailed information to obsess over. Tech journalists and users yesterday confirmed they were briefly able to access data on Twitters' dedicated analytics page.
Twitter confirmed the "experiment" but the page has subsequently been made unavailable, with users instead being redirected to advertising options.
When the public site is fully launched, tweeters will be able to view and analyse information such as the demographics of their followers, account statistics and most frequent trends & topics discussed on their Twitter profile. Analytics will also provide details of how many times shared links have been clicked.
Twitter analytics will already be familiar to companies and individuals who advertise or 'promote' their content on the micro-blogging site, as detailed breakdowns of account activity have been available to advertisers since 2011.
Bloggers and website owners are also likely to be familiar with the popular Google Analytics service. However, the recent tests mark the first time such detailed tweet analysis has been made available to general users.
