The 'Trump Baby' blimp flew in the skies over Dublin this evening as the US President returned to Ireland.

President Trump landed back in Shannon airport just after 5pm this evening after attending D-Day commemorations in Normandy this afternoon.

He is due to spend the night in County Clare before playing golf tomorrow.

There have been a number of protests against his visit since he first arrived yesterday afternoon - and around 2,000 people attended a protest in Dublin this evening.

The protest got underway at the Garden of Remembrance – with the 26-foot blimp taking centre stage.

Emily Duffy from Uplift - which borrowed the balloon from protesters in London - said it symbolises that “a lot of Trump’s policies are based out of a politics of immaturity and a politics of hate.”

The Minister of State for Disability Issues Finian McGrath attended the protest.

On The Hard Shoulder with Ivan Yates this evening, he said he informed the Taoiseach of his decision to take part ahead of time.

The official Government position is that the visit by President Trump is welcome; however, Minister McGrath said Leo Varadkar did not discourage him from taking part.

He said there is plenty of room within the Government for diversity of opinion on the US President's visit.

“The bottom line is, yes we respect the voice on Government policy and the majority view within Government,” he said.

“But there is also room for diversity and for different views in relation to Donald Trump.

“But I think this issue is so serious that we have to deliver a strong message from the people on the ground.”

These protesters said they want to send a clear message that President Trump is not welcome here.

“Mr Trump is a racist and a sexist and climate change denier,” said one.

“He is a very dangerous man,” said another. “I think he really needs to be stopped.”
