A rape trial has been shown footage of a garda interview in which the accused man admits raping a woman and leaving her tied-up in a Dublin apartment.

The 42-year-old married man denies a number of charges including rape, aggravated sexual assault, threats to kill and the abduction of the woman's 4-year-old son in February 2010.

The accused man interrupted his trial this afternoon to say 'I've sat in this court for the last hour watching my name being ridiculed'.

The outburst followed details of an interview with gardai in which he admitted raping a Chinese woman, tying her up and using her ATM card to steal €700.

He opted to leave the court while a video of this interview was shown to the jury.

In it, the 42-year-old says he approached a Chinese woman and her child on the street and convinced her to come into an apartment to help somebody who was sick.

He said having tied her up, he drove the 4-year-old boy to Smithfield and left him there.

Earlier in the trial under questioning from his lawyers, the woman denied she was working as an escort for the accused and that she had offered him sex to pay off a debt.
