WEXFORD

The National Ploughing Championships take place at Heathpark, New Ross, Co. Wexford until Thursday 27th September. Over 180,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the three days and heavy traffic is expected. Heathpark is located approximately 10kms east of New Ross in Wexford.

Blue Route ”“Traffic travelling from Cork can use the N25 Cork/Wexford Rd towards New Ross and cross O’Hanrahan Bridge at New Ross and proceed along the quay on the N25 eastbound to Ballinaboola. Once in Ballinaboola the Blue car park is on the right – Extremely long delays approaching the National Ploughing Championships in New Ross from O’Hanrahans Bridge through New Ross, very busy in Ballinaboola. Motorists are reporting extremely long delays approaching on the N25 Cork/Waterford Rd from Waterford to New Ross.

Green Route ”“ For traffic approaching from the Midlands take the M9 Dublin/Carlow Rd and exit at J5 Carlow. Proceed onto the N80 Enniscorthy Rd through Bunclody before turning right onto the Kiltealy Rd (R746) and follow directional signs to Ballymackesy Cross onto the N30 New Ross Rd. From there, proceed through Clonroche Village turning left towards Heathpark and follows signs to the Green car park. Extremely slow on the M9 Dublin/Waterford Rd between J5 Carlow and J7 Paulstown. Gardai asking motorists to exit the M9 at J9 Kilkenny South and from Kilkenny use the Kilkenny/New Ross Rd (R700) as an alternative.

Purple Route ”“ Traffic travelling to the Championships from Dublin and Wicklow can use the M11/N11 Dublin/Wexford Rd southbound through Ferns and Enniscorthy and follow directional signs for Wexford. At the Ballindinas R/A in Wexford Town take the third exit onto the N25 towards New Ross. Turn right at Carrickbyrne, located just before the Garda Station and follow signs to the Purple car parks. Moving well at this time.

Yellow Route ”“ For traffic approaching from South Wexford should proceed via Wellingtonbridge or the Duncannon Line to the villages of Ballinaboola or Newbawn and follow directional signage to access the Yellow car parks. Moving well at this time.

Signposted diversion will be in place through the towns of Enniscorthy and New Ross as it is anticipated that substantial volumes of traffic will be travelling to and from the event through these two towns.

Bus Éireann will be running a shuttle service to the Championships from Wexford and Waterford Train Stations. Irish Rail operates service to Wexford and Waterford.

Traffic Restrictions

Parking restrictions will be in place on all approaches to the event site. The restrictions will be in place for set times each morning and evening of the event.

One way systems will operate each day of the event from 6am to facilitate traffic travelling to the car parking areas and will be clearly signposted.

At approximately 3pm each day, the one-way systems will alternate and traffic will be directed in the opposite direction to facilitate those exiting from the car parks.
