The London Games have officially started with much of us, still recovering from the excitement brought from the opening ceremony on Friday. While many of us will be cheering Katie Taylor, we will have to wait till Thursday before we see her in action. Till then, there are many from team Ireland performing today with Michael Conlon will be taking part  in the  Men’s Boxing Flyweight Round of 32 at lunchtime as well as Hannah Craig particpating at the Women’s Kayak Heats.

4. Galway Races

As well punters the festival brings the usual glamour and fashion that comes with the most renowned day of the festival, ladies day. With 30,000 attending the event last year, organisers expect this number to increase even more depending on the weather.

style="text-align: left;">Many are still discussing the Queen’s dramatic entrance at the London 2012 opening ceremony. The Queen along with Daniel Craig carried out the spoof making it seem they arrived at the ceremony jumping out of a helicopter via parachute.

style="text-align: left;">Despite the tragedy that occurred in Aurora, the Dark Knight Rises has still managed to maintain the top spot at the American Box Office.It made $64m dollars this weekend ”“ almost 5 times as much as Ice Age: Continental Drift ”“ which was in second place.

style="text-align: left;">Around 5,000 people took to the streets of Ballyconnell in Co. Cavan last night to show their support for bankrupt businessman, Sean Quinn and his family.Many well known GAA figures addressed the crowd at the demonstration with Tyrone Manager Mickey Harte describing the Quinn family as “decent people”.
