Tom Hanks, Bono and The Edge are among the speakers at Dalkey Book Festival starting on June 15th.  

Hollywood actor Tom Hanks has been added to the lineup for Dalkey Book Festival following the release of his debut novel.  

A spokesperson for the festival told Newstalk Hanks will appear at the festival on June 16th to talk about his debut novel The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece and “his path from film to fiction”. 

Organisers said all ticketholders will receive a copy of the two-time Oscar winner’s book.  

They also announced that U2 singer Bono and Irish journalist Fintan O’Toole will close the event on June 18th with a joint panel. 

The singer and journalist will discuss their “very different but overlapping memoirs” Surrender (Bono) and We Don’t Know Ourselves (O’Toole).  

Physicist Brian Cox has also been announced for a second speaker event with Science Foundation Ireland head Ruth Freeman. Prof Cox’s event with musician The Edge is already sold out.  

Tickets for the newly announced events go on sale on May 3rd at 10am.  

Dalkey Book Festival - which is now in its 14th year – will run from June 15th to June 18th. The festival invites “one hundred of the world’s finest authors and sharpest intellects” to discuss their work.  

Among the other names announced already to address the event are Roddy Doyle, Sebastian Barry, Deirdre O’Kane, Masha Gessen and Dylan Moran.
