Gunman in live TV attack has died

A disgruntled former colleague who allegedly killed a reporter and cameraman during a live broadcast in Virginia has died after turning the gun on himself, say authorities.

Alison Parker, 24, and Adam Ward, 27, of CBS affiliate WDBJ, died at the scene of the attack during an interview in Smith Mountain Lake, Moneta.

The suspect, Vester Lee Flanagan, was pursued by authorities in a highway car chase before veering off the road in his rented Chevrolet Sonic and crashing.

The 41-year-old was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, state police said. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

'Dust lady' of the 9/11 attacks dies of stomach cancer

A woman whose photograph became one of the iconic images of the 9/11 attacks has died of stomach cancer aged 42.

Marcy Borders, who was pictured covered in dust fleeing the World Trade Centre in 2001, was diagnosed with the disease in 2014 which she claimed was caused from inhaling toxic air from the attack.

"I definitely believe it because I haven't had any illnesses," she had told NJ.com. "I don't have high blood pressure...high cholesterol (or) diabetes".

Ms Borders had started a new job just one month before the attack and had arrived late that morning. After fleeing the building covered in dust she was grabbed by a man who led her to safety.
