New campaign asks homeowners to be vigilant against burglary

Crimestoppers and An Garda Síochána are asking homeowners to be vigilant against burglary as the evenings get darker.

Assistant Garda Commissioner Derek Byrne, the chairman of Crimestoppers Tim Dalton and the CEO of PhoneWatch, Eoin Dunne, have launched the campaign.

It is focusing on the impacts of burglary on Irish people and communities.

Legislation to give full marriage rights to same sex couples has been signed into law this evening.

The Marriage Act 2015 was signed by the Presidential Commission, filling in for President Higgins who is continuing his visit to the United States.

The legislation now simply needs a commencement order from the Justice Minister in order to allow full same-sex marriages to begin.

Man remanded in custody over murder of Sligo woman

A 33-year-old man has been charged with murdering Natalie McGuinness in Sligo yesterday.

Oisín Conroy, with an address in the town, has been remanded in custody to appear in court again next Thursday.

Mr Conroy appeared in Sligo District Court this morning with a heavily bandaged head, and wearing a blue hoody.

Fans are preventing footballers from "coming out" according to a former England star

Former England international Jermaine Jenas has claimed that footballers are afraid to publicly announce they are gay due to fears of reactions from opposition fans.

The 32-year-old made the comments in a column for Yahoo Sport after recent newspaper revelations that two Premier League footballers, one of whom has played for England, were to announce they were gay before the start of next season.

Two men charged after guns, drugs and ammunition are found in south Dublin

Two men, aged 34 and 41, are due in court tomorrow after €3m worth of cocaine and heroin, weapons and ammunition were found during the search of a car in Dublin.

Four guns, including an AK 47, two rifles and a loaded pump-action shotgun were found during the intelligence led operation on the Greenhills Road in Tallaght yesterday evening.

Ammunition, silencers and telescope sights were also recovered.
