Reports that IBRC approved more than €1bn in debt write-offs for 40 customers

A new report today claims to have revealed the full scale of debt write downs approved by IBRC.

The Sunday Business Post reports that a combined total of between €1bn and €1.2bn was written off for 40 customers (businesses and individuals).

The paper also claims the proposed Commission of Investigation into the bailed-out bank will examine its tax affairs.

Plans have been announced for a new power station in Mayo.

Mayo Renewable Power, with equity from US investment firm Weichert Enterprise, is to construct a 24 megawatt biomass plant at a cost of €180m in Killala.

The project is being financed by Ulster Bank, AIB and Barclays and is expected to be up and running by 2017.

Running blade stolen from Paralympic hopeful

A Monaghan athlete says the theft of his running blade has caused him a great deal of upset.

42-year-old Shane McLaughlin from Clones is due to compete in the discus and shot-put at Berlin Open this week and is hopeful of qualifying for the next Paralympics.

However his blade was stolen from his car on Friday night and has yet to be returned the custom made item cost €18,000 to make and is one of only three in Ireland.
