Frost, fog and ice will clear this morning to give a cold day with a mix of sunny spells and passing heavy showers.

Most of the showers will affect the western half of the country, some of which will be wintry, especially during the morning.

Some good sunshine further east.

Highest temperatures of only 5 to 8 degrees, in mostly moderate westerly breezes.

Status Yellow

There is a Status Yellow snow-ice warning in place for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

It will remain in place until 11 O'clock this morning.

The alert warns of scattered snow showers overnight, mostly affecting parts of west Munster, Connacht and west Ulster leading to accumulations of 1 to 3 cm in some areas, most especially on higher ground.

Widespread frost also with overnight lows of 0 to -3 degrees.

Tonight

Showers will mainly affect Atlantic counties early tonight, with the odd wintry one.

Dry and clear elsewhere with some frost and ice setting in for a time.

Later in the night it will become cloudy and breezy, with some outbreaks of rain moving in from the west, along with freshening southwest winds.

Cold, with lowest temperature of 0 to 3 degrees, coldest across the east and northeast.
