Teachers’ strike
Tomorrow teachers at 720 secondary schools across the country will go on strike in protest at planned reform of the Junior Cert.
The strikes will see some 350,000 second-level students remain at home. Another day of action is planned for January.
Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan today insisted there was time to call off the strike, but the teachers’ unions said they had been forced into the action.
‘Hooded Men’
The group of men who claim they were tortured by the British authorities in Northern Ireland during the 1970s are expecting to find out today if their case is to be revisited.
The so called 'hooded men' are trying to compel the government to apply to the European Court of Human Rights to reopen a 1978 judgment.
The 'hooded men' survivors hope the government will decide at Tuesday’s cabinet meeting whether to revisit their torture claim against Britain.
Sexual Health Awareness Week
Youth group, SpunOut.ie, will host outreach events at colleges across Ireland to encourage students to get regularly tested for STI's.
The group is launching the campaign to mark its ‘Sexual Health Awareness Week’ which runs until Friday.
The campaign aims to normalise regular STI testing and to encourage students to go for a full sexual health screening before Christmas.
