Terre restaurant in Cork has won its second Michelin star, with staff praised for not “believing in clocking out”.

The Castlemartyr Resort restaurant which opened in 2022 was awarded its first star last year and will now celebrate its second.

Castlemartyr Resort General Manager Brendan Commerford said the team have shown “unbelievable dedication” since the restaurant first opened.

“Each goes above and beyond,” he told Newstalk Breakfast.

“They don’t believe in clocking in or clocking out for their shifts or anything like that – they're here from the crack of dawn

“It’s just the passion and dedication of the team and all the staff here at the resort.”

Accepting the award at a ceremony in England last night, Terre chef Vincent Crepel said the second Michelin star is “the realisation of a lifelong dream”.

Michelin star with 'Irish charm'

Mr Commerford praised Terre for maintaining its “Irish charm” despite its rise in the global restaurant scene.

“They make it a little bit more relaxed and welcoming,” he said. “I think that’s what makes us different at Castlemartyr Resort and Terre, that Irishness.”

Mr Commerford said the accolade is putting “Cork on the culinary map”.

“At this stage, three one-stars [restaurants] and two two-stars is just fantastic for the city and for the county and for the region,” he said.

Homestead Cottage in Co Clare, the Bishop’s Buttery in Co Tipperary and D’Olier Street in Dublin were also awarded their first Michelin stars during a ceremony in Manchester last night.

The organisers described Homestead Cottage, which is run by Robbie and Sophie McCauley, as “a thoroughly charming place”.
