Being born several weeks premature is not the easiest of routes into the world, and babies delivered thus face a number of difficulties in the coming days and months to make up for lost time. But as Canadian photographer Red Méthot shows, despite a rough start, in time these babies can persevere and thrive.
In his Les Premas series, Méthot gathers images of children and adults today, but shows them holding a picture of themselves when they were very newly born. In most, the babies are undergoing serious medical treatment in intensive-care units.
