Banking Inquiry final report may be delayed due to internal investigation

The banking inquiry has admitted that its final report may need to be delayed because of an internal investigation into its own operations.

The report was due to be issued in November but publication will now depend on the findings of a review by a senior council.

Up to 210 cases of sexual abuse in schools eligible for State compensation

Some 210 cases of alleged child sex abuse in schools are eligible for compensation under a Department of Education Scheme.

According to the Irish Times, the State Claims Agency has identified the cases, of which each person is entitled to up to €84,000 - meaning the State is liable up to €17.6m.

Calls to scrap Irish Water following Eurostat report

Opposition parties have demanded that the government scraps Irish Water after an adverse ruling by Eurostat.

The EU agency says Irish Water isn't receiving enough income from the public to be considered separate to the government - and that this would still be the case even if ALL bills were being paid.
