The Olympic torch has begun the final leg of its journey around the UK.

It’ll travel down the River Thames towards the Olympic Stadium ahead of tonight’s opening ceremony.

An estimated 1 billion people around the world are expected to tune in.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is travelling to the English capital later, where he’ll meet with the Irish Olympians taking part in the games.

He’ll be joined by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar and both are due to attend the opening ceremony.

Most of the details about tonights openeing ceremony are being kept secret – especially surrounding who will light the flame.

A late rush of bets last night mean Roger Bannister is the favourite.

In the next half-hour, Big Ben will ring continously for three minutes to mark the start of the Games and Churches around the country will join in.
