Killer of Karen Buckley to be sentenced today

The 21 year old Scottish man who murdered Karen Buckley in Glasgow is to be sentenced this morning.

Alexander Pacteau pleaded guilty to murdering the nurse from Mourneabbey in Co. Cork last month.

Mr Pacteau will be given the mandatory life sentence, but Judge Lady Rae will this morning decide on a minimum sentence he must serve before being eligible for parole.

Irish Water to add chemical to Limerick water supply to tackle lead

Irish Water is to begin adding a chemical to Limerick city water to tackle the presence of lead in the supply.

The pilot programme has been approved by the HSE and the Environmental Protection Agency and will get underway at the end of the month.

A food-grade substance called orthophosphate will be added to treated drinking water which will put a coating on lead pipes, and reduce the amount entering the water.

The British Prime Minister is set to face more questions over the legality of the targeted killing of two Islamic State fighters from Britain.

Reyaad Khan, from Cardiff, and Ruhul Amin, from Aberdeen, were killed in the aerial raid which was ordered without Commons approval.

David Cameron said the attack was carried out with the approval of the UK Attorney General, but without parliamentary backing.
