Juncker to announce EU refugee plan

A plan to share more than 120,000 refugees among European nations is expected to be unveiled later by the President of the European Commission.

Jean-Claude Juncker will announce the proposals at his inaugural State of the Union speech in Strasbourg this morning.

Migration and the refugee crisis across Europe is set to dominate Mr Juncker's speech as the continent struggles to cope with the biggest movement of people into its countries since World War Two.

Details emerge of Cabinet wishlist for Budget 2016

More Gardai, Defence Forces and teachers are on the wishlist of cabinet ministers as work continues on Budget 2016.

Details have emerged of some of the demands government departments are setting out ahead of next month's announcement.

Next year's budget is expected to come in at around €1.5bn worth of increased spending and tax cuts, and ministers have already been told there is no scope to increase that total.

British Airways plane bursts into flames at Las Vegas airport

A British Airways plane bound for London with 172 people on board has burst into flames on the tarmac at Las Vegas Airport.

The Boeing 777-200 was preparing to take off shortly after 4pm (local time) on Tuesday when its left engine caught fire, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

The 159 passengers and 13 crew were evacuated using emergency slides as around 50 firefighters tackled the blaze, while 14 people were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Students across Ireland to receive Junior Cert results

Almost 60,000 students across the country will receive their Junior Certificate results today.

Six of them will be celebrating earning 12 'A' grades in the exams, while 98 of them got 11.

U2 are bringing their Innocence and Experience show to Dublin

U2 are coming home to Dublin this November.

After doubts emerged about finding a suitable venue for the Innocence and Experience tour, they've now reconfigured the set up and confirmed four concerts for the capital on November 23rd, 24th, 27th and 28th in the 3Arena.
