With less than 12 hours of 2014 left the countdown is well underway to tonight's New Year celebrations. As part of a 3 day New Year festival in Dublin tonight will see a concert in the city centre with some of Ireland’s biggest names, including Kodaline and James Vincent McMorrow.

More than 12,000 people are expected to attend a sold-out concert to ring in the New Year in Dublin this evening, but it’s not just the College Green Countdown Concert on offer in the capital tonight, with an array of events on across the city centre for people to enjoy – even if they didn’t get a ticket to the Countdown Concert. Famous Dublin buildings such like Trinity College, Dublin Castle, and Wolfe Tone Square will be lit-up with 3D projections as the city centre is turned into a New Year’s festival ground, catering to all ages.

To help us pick out the best bits from the three day festival Fáilte Ireland's Director for Dublin Orla Carroll spoke to Lunchtime today to run through what's on offer in Dublin over the next two days.

She had this advice for families who want to get involved in the festivities. “For the families there’s a fabulous light procession that’s starting at seven o’clock this evening at Stephen’s Green, going down Grafton Street and ending up in Dublin Catle so that’s a great one for the family to get involved in and have an early celebration.”

Listing the broad range of activities on offer tonight, Farrell also spoke about the art trail, museums and the best New Year’s celebrations outside Dublin, including Europe’s final sunset, in Achill, and a parade with a difference in County Kerry.
