The book was made available by a third-party seller on Tesco’s website and had been incorrectly labelled as suitable for children aged five to eight. The book had been on sale for around three months before attracting the attention of parent groups.

The supermarket has removed the book from their site, and both they and stockist Prezzybox have apologised for the error.

Talking to BBC online, the book’s author and illustrator Mel Elliott said "my products are pop culture-inspired and aimed at playful grown-ups. They are not aimed at kids. They are usually sold to grown-ups in fashion shops and book stores.”

The 24-page book, which is available on Amazon and other online retailers, features black & white scenes from a range of horror classics for readers to ‘colour in’. Illustrations include the ‘bunny boiler’ scene from Fatal Attraction, the shower scene from Psycho and a selection of The Shining’s most iconic moments

The ‘Colour Me Good’ range features a variety of other colouring books 'for adults', such as Ryan Gosling, Kate Moss and hip-hop editions.
