Temperatures could dip as low as -5 degrees this week, during what's set to be one of the coldest weeks of the winter season.
A status yellow snow-ice warning has been issued for Tuesday morning until Saturday evening.
Met Éireann says: "Very cold this week with scattered wintry showers, frequent across the southwest, west and north. Some accumulations of snow are expected. There will be widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces.
"There is the possibility of a more significant spell of sleet/snow on Thursday."
Forecasters are due to provide on update tomorrow morning.

Wintry showers with accumulations of snow on high ground are expected in the coming days.
Tonight, frost and icy patches are expected as temperatures fall to between -1 and +2 degrees.
It's set to get increasingly cold over the next few nights, with lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees on Tuesday night.
Wednesday night is expected to be even colder again, with Met Éireann forecasting severe frost and icy patches.

Matthew Martin, meteorologist with Met Éireann, explained that the cold weather is expected to last until the end of the week.
He explained: "It looks like we're in for one of the coldest weeks of the winter season so far.
"Some quite cold air going to funnel in across Ireland from Tuesday onwards. We're expecting some wintry showers and widespread frost at night."
He added: "We could get some accumulations of snow in parts of high ground. Really through until Thursday and Friday there'll be further wintry showers."
