A 16-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained after she was hit by a car in Co Cork on Monday evening.

The teenager was knocked down on the Main Street in Ballincollig at 7:45pm.

She was taken to University Hospital Cork with serious injuries.

However, gardaí say she lost her fight for life yesterday evening.

The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
