A 14-year-old boy has died in a farm accident in County Clare.
Gardaí said the boy was involved in an incident with a tractor on a farm in the Milltown Malbay area just after 9am this morning.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
Local Councillor Róisín Garvey knows the family and has expressed her condolences.
“I just know they are lovely people and they are lovely parents,” she said.
“No family deserves this; it is just horrendous. It is just sadness we all feel – the whole community and the whole county.
“It is just shocking, especially at this time when they can’t have a funeral or anything. It is just horrendous.”
She urged anyone coming to terms with the death to reach out for support.
“The main thing is we have to offer all the supports we can,” she said.
“There are good supports there for mental health and anybody who is struggling, especially the boy’s friends, it is really important that they reach out at this time.
“We are so isolated and we don’t want people to be left to isolate on their own dealing with this tragedy.
“So, I would just encourage any of the family or teenagers who knew the lovely boy to reach out.”
The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and is due to carry out an investigation.
