The Taoiseach says there will be no change to government plans on abortion laws. Enda Kenny says the draft abortion legislation will only allow for terminations if there is a real and substantial risk to the life of a mother.
He is responding to a call for cases of rape, incest or fatal fetal abnormalities to be included in the Heads of the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill.
Independent Deputy John Halligan is seeking a Constitutional referendum on the matter.
However the Taoiseach says the parameters of the draft legislation are confined by the Constitution and the Supreme Court 'X Case' judgement.
He says the coalition will act in line with the Constitution and the law - and only allow for terminations when there is a real and substantial risk to the life of a woman.
Waterford TD John Halligan urged Mr. Kenny to re-think.
