The Taoiseach says he iÂ’s confident the Head of Irish Water is the right man for the job.

John Tierney has come under fire for the €86 million being spent by Irish Water on consultants.

He also faces further questions about his role in the stalled Poolbeg Incinerator project in Dublin - which has cost the taxpayer nearly €100 million.

Tierney was the manager of Dublin City Council for seven years, with control over the facility. Now the head of the Public Accounts Committee wants government permission to send in the Comptroller and Auditor General.

But Taoiseach Enda Kenny told reporters outside Leinster House this morning that he has every confidence in him:
