The Taoiseach has told the Dáil there will be a need for a bailout for the Department of Health.

Enda Kenny's admission that there will be a supplementary budget comes as over-runs continue in the HSE.

Earlier, Minister James Reilly revealed that the HSE has already overspent by €158 million in the first five months of the year.

Mr Kenny was being quizzed by Fianna Fáil leader, Micheál Martin:

At the current rate, an extra budget would be needed by autumn to stop the HSE running out of money before the year is out.

But Health Minister James Reilly has defended the HSE over its financial problems, he told Fianna Fáil that the current government has to do more with less:

It comes amid speculation that Health Minister James Reilly will be moved or dropped from his role during the summer Cabinet reshuffle. Transport Minister Leo Varadkar is being tipped for the health job - he spoke to Newstalk's Pat Kenny show about the possible move.
