The Indian Ambassador to Ireland Debashish Chakravarti came to Iveagh house to express what he says is the angst of the people over the death of Savita Halappanavar.

"I"m under instructions from my government to approach the Irish authorities and to convey our concern at this unfortunate...this huge human tragedy" he said.

"And to hear what the Irish side has to say".

"A great deal of angst, sadness and also a lot of public interest in the matter and among civil society too" he added.

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore says he was struck by the outpouring of grief and sympathy of Irish people in the past few days and he conveyed that back.

Eamon Gilmore says as far as he is concerned legal clarity is now needed on medical terminations saying doing nothing is not an option.

"The terms of reference of the ABC Group emphasise that this is an issue which will not be delayed - that this is something that we will be dealing with" he commented.

Kenny: I will not be rushed

But Speaking in Galway Taoiseach Enda Kenny was adamant there was a need for rational and truthful debate.

"I"m not going to be rushed into a situation by force of numbers on any side - this is something that has to be treated rationally, and openly and truthfully - and that"s what will happen" he said.

"So we"ll have the recommendations and the report brought to government by the Minister for Health".

"The report will then be published" he added.

Eamon Gilmore also says he is open to meeting Praveen Halappanavar or any of the family.
