The standoff began in the early hours of Sunday.

Between 30 and 40 shots were reportedly fired from a house in the Deerpark area of Tallaght, before the situation ended peacefully yesterday afternoon.

The scene was cordoned off as trained negotiators spoke to the shooter - and nobody was injured during the incident.

47-year-old Patrick Kinch appeared in court this afternoon charged with possession of a firearm.

There was no bail application during his brief appearance, and the court heard he made no reply when he was cautioned.

He has been remanded in custody and is due in court again on Wednesday.
