The only survivor of the Thomond Bridge tragedy in Limerick is praising volunteers who organised a candlelight vigil for his two colleagues who lost their lives.
Hundreds turned out to pay their respects on Saturday to the late TJ O'Herlihy of Castleisland and Bryan Whelan of O'Briensbridge who drowned in an accident last month while working on repairs to the bridge.
Askeaton man Paul Murphy told Live95fm's Limerick Today that Saturday's vigil was a very special event and he will be staying in touch with organisers Maureen Joyce and Breda Davis.
Paul also praised and thanked many others including the emergency services and Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, the victims' families and a young passer-by who had tried to help:
The three men were were strapped inside a security cage that was dangling from a crane over the River Shannon when it broke free and plunged into the water on August 29.
It is understood the three men were wearing life jackets and safety harnesses to tether them to a cage, which was suspended from a crane, when it broke away.
Murphy was the only one of the three who managed to free himself and swim to the surface.
The Health and Safety Authority are currently investigating the incident.
