The former Labour Party Chairman Colm Keaveney is supporting the calls of former Fine Gael TDs for a change in Dáil rules.

Six Fine Gael members who have lost the party whip have met to consider a campaign to win back speaking rights in the Dail.

Currently Independent TDs are not given speaking rights unless they are members of a technical group but only one group is allowed.

Yesterday the rebels met to discuss their bid to change the Dail rules and form a second technical group.

But their efforts will face opposition as the Chief Whip Paul Kehoe say govenrment will not agree to change the rules and allow a new group of TDs to question the Taoiseach inside the chamber.

Deputy Keaveney says the rules must be changed to give every TD their say. He says he met with one Fine Gael TD last night to discuss getting others involved in their campaign.
