Today

Storm Atiyah will bring very windy conditions across the country today.

Strong west to southwest winds will increase gale force in the west of the country through the afternoon and into the evening with potentially severe and damaging gusts.
Westerly winds will reach strong gale to storm force on western and southern coasts.

There will be frequent blustery showers throughout the day with a risk of hail and thunder.

Strong winds in eastern areas will increase to gale force during the evening as westerly winds veer northwesterly with strong gale to storm force winds continuing on coasts.

Highest temperatures of 6 to 8°C.

Tonight

Continuing very windy tonight with strong to gale force west to northwest winds with strong gusts.

Showers will become isolated overnight. Winds will gradually ease towards dawn.

Temperatures of between 4 and 7 °C.

Weather warnings

A status red wind warning has been issued for Kerry.

West to southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speeds in excess of 80km/h, with gusts in excess of 130km/h for a time on Sunday evening.

Extreme caution is advised, especially near the coast and on high ground.

Due to a combination of high seas and storm surge there is a possibility of coastal flooding.

The alert is valid from 4.00pm to 7.00pm on Sunday.

A status orange wind warning is in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

Storm Atiyah will track between Iceland and Ireland on Sunday, generating very strong winds across the country.

Southwesterly winds, later veering northwesterly, will reach mean speeds between 65 and 80 km/h with gusts between 110 and 130km/h, possibly higher in exposed coastal areas.

Due to a combination of high seas and storm surge there is a possibility of coastal flooding.

This is in place from 1.00pm Sunday until 6:00am on Monday.

There is a status yellow wind warning for the rest of Ireland

West to southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h in places this evening, tonight and Sunday.

This alert is in place from 7.00pm on Saturday until 1:00pm on Sunday.

A status yellow rainfall warning is in place for Donegal with rainfall accumulations of 30 to 40mm expected between 6.00pm on Saturday to 6.00pm on Sunday.
