Newstalk listeners have donated thousands more tampons to a period poverty charity as part of Ciara Kelly’s ‘Stop the Shame’ protest.

Listeners have been sending in the tampons as part of a protest against an Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland decision to ban a Tampax ad from the television.

The ASAI banned the ad, which features two women discussing the correct use of tampons, after receiving complaints from viewers.

Last week, Kelly brought 13,000 tampons to the regulator’s office in Dublin to highlight public anger over the decision, before donating them to period poverty charity, Homeless Period Ireland.

More products have been arriving in the days since and today, the charity picked up a further 2,000 taking the total to 15,000.

The agency has previously said the issue with the advertisement was not its message but the way it was delivered.

It has said the advert could be returned to the television if it is amended and resubmitted.
