The Independent TD Stephen Donnelly has announced he's to resign from the Oireachtas banking inquiry.
It comes after the coalition last week added two senators to the Oireachtas inquiry to ensure it had a government majority.
Newstalk's Sinéad O'Donnell reports:
Writing in today's Sunday Independent, the Wicklow deputy said the actions of the Government have shown that they will use their majority to control the outcome of this investigation.
There was outrage amongst opposition politicians this week when the Government added Fine Gael Senator Michael D'Arcy and Labour Senator Susan O'Keeffe to the committee - so as to ensure the Government had a majority.
Deputy Donnelly says the Taoiseach can now set the inquiry's terms of reference, decide who's questioned, exclude certain events for consideration and even veto the final report.
He also said that the original "unintended composition" of the the committee would have been trusted by the public far more than one with a Government majority.
All eyes are now on the other members of the committee - to see if anyone will follow suit.
When contacted this morning, Fianna Fáil said it's not happy with the way things have panned out - but that its Finance spokesperson Michael McGrath has no plans at this stage to resign from the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry committee.
