Stepaside Garda Station in Co Dublin will reopen on March 9th.

It will only be open to the public from 7am to 9pm every day, but the station will provide 24/7 policing cover.

One sergeant, 15 gardaí and a roads policing unit will operate from the station.

It means there will now be a total of 567 operational Garda stations in the country.

The outgoing Transport Minister Shane Ross had long campaigned for the station - which is located in his former constituency of Dublin Rathdown - to be reopened.

He has previously denied that moves to reopen the station represented 'stroke politics'.
