A status yellow wind and rain warning has been issued for 11 counties ahead of 'unseasonably wet and windy weather'.

It will be in place for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Wexford from 3am until 10pm tomorrow.

Met Éireann says heavy rain can be expected with a chance of spot flooding, and there'll be strong winds with gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour.

Conditions are forecast to improve on Monday afternoon, but some local hail showers are expected.

Forecaster Andrew Doran-Sherlock says bank holiday Monday morning is set to be a washout for most areas of the country.

He explained: "Winds will begin to pick up in western sea areas, and will extend primarily then to the south-west, south and south-east.

"Rain will approach during the night, but it will be particularly heavy during the morning."

Forecasters say they're expecting temperatures to remain relatively cool for much of the coming week.
